R-E-S-P-E-C-T

As I think about the word, R-E-S-P-E-C-T, I think back to 1967 when Aretha Franklin sang this song.  It was Aretha's first number one hit and this song established her as the Queen of Soul.

People have been wanting respect for a long time, even before 1967.  Even God demanded respect from Moses.  God had spoken to Moses from a burning bush.

"God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!  And Moses said, "Here I am." "Do not come any closer", God said.  "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground"."  Exodus 3:4-5

I believe that our society has forgotten what it means to respect someone.  To me respect means giving that person the attention that they need, to admire them, to show an interest in what they are saying or doing, showing courtesy and so much more.

It seems that everyone wants to state their opinion(s), but they don't want to respect others in what their view or judgment may be.  We all have strong opinions about certain topics, especially when it comes to politics, religion, raising kids and the list goes on and on and on.

Do you show respect?  It is hard to respect someone when they have treated us badly.  How often have you heard, "I would show them some respect, if they respected me".

Respect begins with each person, stepping out and be willing to listen before reacting.  By listening, it makes you stop and think, "Is this something that I need to argue about"?  It probably isn't!  By hearing what others have to say, it sometimes broadens your own views.

As God wants you to respect Him, He also wants you to respect others.

Take time this week and show respect to God and to others around you.

Remember God gave you one mouth to speak and two ears to listen!

So well said respect is something far too many expect but do not give and don't understand that to get respect you also need to give respect
