Sunset in Albuquerque

This week I had the opportunity to travel to Albuquerque for work.  When you land at the airport, you definitely get the feel of the Spanish Colony which was founded back in 1706.  As you step outside, you feel the low humidity and see the desert landscape.

I stayed at a hotel at the airport, but from my room on the 4th floor I was able to see in the far distance the Sandia Mountains.  I looked out of the window one morning and I saw two hot-air balloons.  Albuquerque is well known for the International Balloon Fiesta that takes place every year, the first of October.  The Fiesta is a nine-day event and has over 500 balloons.

I wasn't able to see much of Albuquerque on this trip, but I have been here many times. A great site to visit is the Church of San Felipe de Neri, originally founded in 1706.  The well-preserved interiors and architecture is worth seeing.

The original city settlement from 1706 is worth visiting.  The cobblestone streets are filled with brightly colored adobe huts that now house galleries, restaurants and other shops.

Santa Fe, New Mexico's capital is only about an hour northeast of Albuquerque.  You definitely want to take the time to drive to Santa Fe.  The Spanish colony was founded in 1610.  Walking around the plaza, you will be thrown back in time with the Pueblo style architecture.

The Southwest flare is seen in the jewelry(silver and turquoise), as well as the furniture, cowboy boots and concho belts.  The New Mexico cuisine is some of the best.  Restaurants use recipes that have been handed down for years.

At the end of the day, it is very relaxing to sit outside and to enjoy a drink and to watch the beautiful sunset!
