The Month of June

June is probably one of my favorites months.  There are many reasons.  Growing up, June was always the beginning of summer vacation.  The school season would end on Memorial Day and would start back the day after Labor Day.  After I graduated from college, my career was in sales.  June would always seems to be a slower month for sales and I would be able to finally get caught up on all my paperwork.

Now that I live in Colorado, I appreciate June even so much more.  After living through the months of snow and cold, June always seems to be the perfect month for temperatures.  The mornings could be in the upper 40's(farenheit)/8 to 9 degrees(celsius).  The afternoons are in the upper 70's(farenheit)/22 to 24 degrees(celsius).

Also June is the month with most daylight hours because it contains the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.  I can get up between 6:30 and 7 am and go for a three mile walk and enjoy the cooler temperature with the low humidity.  If I get up earlier, I can also enjoy the beautiful sunrise with the dark blue, peachy, lilac colors.

With the windows opened up to allow the cool breeze to sweep through the house, one can hear the red-wing blackbirds singing their songs with such such a loud voice as they begin to look for insects for their breakfast.

In Colorado, the trees leaves are out; people have planted colorful flowers throughout their yards and the landscapes are still fresh, green and healthy looking.

On June 6th, Americans remember D-Day.  This day in 1944 was when the Allied forces staged an enormous assault on German positions on the beaches of Normandy, France.  More than 156,000 American, British and Canadian troops stormed 50 miles of Normandy's fiercely defended beaches in northern France in an operation that proved to be a critical turning point in World War II.

June 14th is Flag Day.  People across the United States celebrate Flag Day each year to honor the United States flag and to commemorate the flag's adoption.

In the United States, Father Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.  It is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood and the influence of fathers in society.

We can not forget June 21st.  This day usually marks the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.  This is the day of the year with the most hours of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere and the fewest hours of daylight in the Southern Hemisphere.

There are so many more events that take place in June.  This is the month that one wants to run around the house barefooted, put on shorts and tank tops and just get outside to enjoy the warmer weather.

God considered that this planet needed several months of summer, so it stands to reason that God wants us to have a month or several months of mental rest.  June was put into our lives so that we could have a mental rest, a time to relax and to build memories with family and friends.

All the months play a special part in our lives, but to me June is the month of simplicity.
